The two-year advanced Islamic studies course will focus on teaching the subjects at an advanced level. However, both beginners and students that have been exposed to these subjects previously can benefit from the course.

Fiqh:

  • Introduction to Fiqh
  • The development of fiqh from the Prophetic era up till the formation of the sunni schools
  • The lives and context of the four imams, their students and the development of their schools

The fiqh of Taharah: we will be exploring how the fiqh is derived from the original sources and understand why the jurists differed. We will be analysing the evidences that are used by the different schools of law. This will be followed by extensive reading of fatawa from the hanafi school so that students are able to answer any questions pertatining to the subject of taharah. The fiqh of salah, sawm and zakat will also be taught in a similar manner.

Aqida:

Alongside training in fiqh, we aim to cover the classical book on creed, al-‘Aqidah al-Tahawiyyah and explore the modern day ideologies such as athiesm, liberlism, feminism etc. By the end of the course, students should understand the Islamic creed as well as be able to engage in dialogue regarding modern day ideologies.
